I’ve had the new XA PRO 3D GTX (Salomon dropped the Ultra 2 Branding for this years  model) since last summer and will say that so for I’ve been very pleased with their performance.

Salomon XA PRO 3D GTX

They are light and nimble considering the protection they provide, compared to a minimalist type of shoe. The toe box offers plenty of room and the toe cap provides lots of protection.

The rugged outsole is slighty wider in the heel offering greater stability and the aggressive treads are great in all types of conditions. The shoes low profile, provide a sense of confidence in footing and traction especially on the rocks and when scrambling.

I really like the one pull lacing system. It does a good job distributing even pressure and is great for those on the fly changes. The lace garage too is a great feature to keep the laces tucked away and free from getting snagged up.

The Gortex (GTX) has proved its worth in keeping my feet dry, but it will say my feet felt quite warm on some of the hotter days. Nonetheless, I still think the Gortex is great for those rainy, wet conditions.

As a side note, I did purchase the first pair online and used the size chart guide. It placed me in a half size smaller than I wear. I did order them and unfortunately they were to small. (found that out the hard way…) Saloman has admitted that the chart is not very accurate and that people should order the size they normally wear. They offer me 50% off my next purchase to make up for the mistake. I ended up with my “true” size and they fit great. Salomon’s customer service on the US side was great, but I never heard back from the Canadian office.

The Salomon XA PRO 3D GTX look great and feel even better. Perfect for everyday use, the gym, and especially out on the trails. Sturdy and rugged, yet nimble enough to run the trails. I would recommend them to anyone.
